5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide
Based on the Theme: "The Kingdom Is Here"
Day 1: Who Rules Your Life? Reading: Matthew 6:33 -- Jesus calls his followers to seek God's kingdom above all else, promising that what they need will follow.
Devotional: Every kingdom has a king, and every life is ruled by something. The question is not whether you serve a master, but which master you serve. Jesus does not ask for a portion of your life -- he asks for the throne of it. The first commandment leaves no room for divided loyalty. Consider the areas of your life where you are still sitting on the throne -- your career, your fears, your plans. Surrender is not weakness. It is the bravest thing a person can do. Who is truly ruling your life today?
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you have not yet made Jesus king? What would it look like to surrender that today?
Day 2: The Law Written on Your Heart Reading: Matthew 5:17-19 -- Jesus affirms that he came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it, and that those who live by it and teach it will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Devotional: God's law was never meant to be a burden. It was meant to be a culture -- a way of life that sets his people apart and makes his kingdom visible in the world. Jesus himself is what the law looks like in human form. When you love your neighbor, when you rest and trust God to provide, when you treat the stranger with dignity, you are displaying the culture of heaven to a watching world. You do not follow the law to earn salvation. You follow it because you belong to a kingdom with a culture worth living.
Reflection: In what ways does your daily life reflect the culture of God's kingdom? Where does it fall short, and what is one step you can take toward alignment?
Day 3: You Were Not Made to Walk Alone Reading: Ephesians 2:19 -- Those who belong to God are no longer outsiders but fellow citizens with the saints and members of his household.
Devotional: The Christian faith was never designed to be a solo journey. God places his people in community because the kingdom has a people, not just a population of isolated individuals. The early church ate together, suffered together, and carried one another's burdens. The enemy knows that an isolated believer is a vulnerable one. If you have been doing faith alone -- just you and your Bible -- you are missing something God designed for you. Find your people. Let them speak truth into your life. Let them see your struggle. The kingdom grows in the soil of genuine relationship.
Reflection: Are you genuinely connected to other believers outside of a Sunday service? What is one step you can take this week to deepen that connection?
Day 4: The Kingdom Is Already Here Reading: Luke 17:20-21 -- When asked when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus responds that the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed from a distance -- it is in your midst.
Devotional: Many believers are waiting for heaven to begin living. But Jesus declared that the kingdom is not a future destination alone -- it is a present reality. The abundant life described in John 10:10 is not reserved for eternity. It is available now, in the middle of your hardship, your uncertainty, and your grief. As David wrote, even in the valley of the shadow of death, God is present. The kingdom does not arrive when your circumstances improve. It arrives when you open your eyes to the God who is already standing in front of you, saying, "Come and follow me."
Reflection: What circumstances in your life have caused you to feel like the kingdom is far away? How might God be present and active in those very places right now?
Day 5: All In -- Losing Your Life to Find It Reading: Mark 8:35 -- Jesus teaches that whoever tries to save his own life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of Jesus and the gospel will find it.
Devotional: Salvation is a gift that costs you nothing. A kingdom life will cost you everything. The disciples left their nets immediately. Matthew walked away from his tax booth without looking back. The rich young ruler walked away sad because the cost felt too high. The question Jesus is asking you today is the same one he asked them: are you willing to go all in? Not by your own strength -- he never asked you to do it alone. With God, all things are possible. But he is looking for the kind of faith that drops the nets, trusts the call, and does not look back.
Reflection: What nets are you still holding onto? What would it mean for you personally to go all in with God in this season of your life? Bring that before him in prayer today.
